UPDATE: David Fincher's The Social Network (2010)

Columbia Pictures and David Fincher will bring the story of Facebook and social networking to the big screen. Fincher best known for dark films such as Fight Club, Se7en and Zodiac seems to be taking his first steps into the drama/comedy genre. I'm a rabid fan of everything Fincher has done, so I'm onboard no matter what.

"the drama/comedy focuses on the evolution of Facebook, the social network created in 2004 on the Harvard campus. And how overnight success and wealth changes the lives of the classmates who created it. The trio were the subject of internet rumors as Fincher zeroed in on his leads. "

Jesse Eisenberg (Squid & The Whale, Adventureland) will play founder Mark Zuckerberg, Justin Timberlake (Black Snake Moan) will play Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder who became Facebook’s founding president, and Andrew Garfield (Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) will play Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder who fell out with Zuckerberg as the social network became a financial juggernaut.

UPDATE: The cast has grown with the additions of Armie Hammer (Reaper, Gossip Girl), Max Minghella (Agora, Art School Confidential), Rooney Mara (Youth In Revolt, A Nightmare On Elm Street), Brenda Song (Zack & Cody), Dakota Johnson and Josh Pence.
