Will Smith Good For Captain America?

I was just reading an article over at Collider and they were wondering if the previous rumor of Will Smith being cast as Steve Rogers/Captain America is all that bad of an idea. Thinking it over it does make sense since Smith fits the all-American persona well. Plus it wouldn't hurt to hire someone with such an international presence. I've listed some of the pros and cons of hiring such high profile actor.

The positives include Smith's previous successes with within his action roles. Along with his dramatic performances gaining Oscar nominations for Ali and The Pursuit of Happiness. He's almost an enigma going from rapper to TV actor to accomplished film actor. I think he'd bring in international audiences that might be turned off by a ultra pro-American character. The anti-American sentiment is still out there but isn't as rampant these days. Having a big named actor attached could help support the relative unfamiliar character.

Some of the negatives include his asking price which might be too much for the budding Marvel Studios to payout and could compete with the film's production budget. Another problem that comes with successful action films is the ever following sequels. Those could include Men In Black 3, Bad Boys 3, I Am Legend 2 , I Robot 2 and Hancock 2. I'm not sure they'll be able to talk Smith into filming Avengers along with Captain America.

If they're unable to rangle Smith for Steve Rogers I could see them casting him for the roles of a young Sgt. Fury or Isiah Bradley.
