Paramount Sets June 2015 Release Date For TERMINATOR Reboot Which Will Be First In A New Trilogy

Some new information about the next Terminator film has been revealed by Deadline. As Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures will partner on the film which will be released on June 26th 2015. Coming out the same year as Avengers 2, Star Wars Episode VII, Ant-Man, Jurassic Park 4, Fantastic Four and Pirates 5. The film would be the first installment in a rebooted trilogy.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently the only person attached to the film besides newly announced writers Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar, Shutter Island, Ghost In The Shell, Battle Angel Alita) and Patrick Lussier (Scream 1-3, Apollo 18, Red Eye). Laeta has worked with James Cameron which is sign the project might end up getting the blessings and support of Jim. A director hasn't been named but it was revealed that Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson, Only God Forgives, Drive) took a meeting. Script writer Patrick Lussier also dabbles as a director. Helming action/horror flicks My Bloody Valentine, Halloween III and Drive Angry, which could make him a candidate. There were also rumblings that Dwayne Johnson was wanted to play the new Terminator. While it's interesting to see them try to push a giant three part story a similar thing happened with Terminator Salvation and it ended up being underwhelming.

Matthew Vaughn Eyeing Jack O'Connell For Lead Role Alongside Colin Firth In THE SECRET SERVICE

TheWrap reports that writer/director Matthew Vaughn is keen on trying to get actor Jack O'Connell (300: Rise of An Empire) for the main role in The Secret Service. The film is based on the Mark Millar comic which would be a violent mix of My Fair Lady meets James Bond. As a veteran spy trains a young street smart teen to become a spy himself. Colin Firth is already set to play the mentor of the film and Jack is wanted for the hoodie role. Two other names in the mix also include John Boyega (Attack The Block) and Christian Cooke (Cemetery Junction).

Sony Developing A CAPTAIN PLANET AND THE PLANETEERS Film

THR reports that Sony Pictures is looking to turn the 90's Saturday morning cartoon series Captain Planet and The Planeteers into a feature film. The show focused on an international group of teens who used the powers of the Earth to combat evil polluters.

Recently, FunnyOrDie put out a video starring Don Cheadle as broken version of Captain Planet. Here's hoping Sony is smart enough to sign up Cheadle for the title role to capture some of that heat. The real question is, will Cap still sport his green mullet?

SPECULATION: Does Marvel Want Vin Diesel To Play A Villainous Namor The Sub-Mariner, Making Way For PLANET HULK And THE DEFENDERS?

It was revealed that Vin Diesel could meet with Marvel about a possible role. At that point yesterday there wasn't much to go on besides an old posting of a picture of Vision. A few years back Vin Diesel told MTV his dream Marvel roles would include a villain naming Dr. Doom or Namor The Sub-Mariner. Namor is considered the first mutant but is exempt from Fox's X-Men deal and his film rights are with Marvel. While Doom is securely still with Fox for their Fantastic Four reboot which is about to start production. So it sounds like Marvel might be looking to cast him as Namor McKenzie better known as The Sub-Mariner. He also posted this image as well.

“I would be [more] apt to play a villain,” Diesel revealed to MTV News. “[I'd like to play] the protagonist of a story that is also like a Marvel villain – like Doctor Doom or something.”

“I have some superhero favorites,” Diesel admitted. “I talked to ['The Surrogates' director] Jonathan Mostow about ‘Sub-Mariner,’ which could be interesting because of its World War II-New York connection.”

The sometimes villain and hero has been hinted to in Iron Man 2 with the Meta Human map at a possible location for Namor's kingdom Atlantis along with Black Panther's country Wakanda. Another possible hint to Namor includes his company Oracle with the sprinkling of ads for Sun Oracle Systems in Avengers and Iron Man 3. At one point there were rumblings that both Captain America: The First Avenger and Iron Man 3 would feature him.

Namor could make excellent villain or hero for Avengers 2 or beyond, depending on the plans of Phase Two and Phase Three. Since it's very possible the new threat on Earth could come from the Atlantis. Since Namor did team-up with the Hulk to take on the Avengers in issue three. It's possible that Marvel might be trying to put together a Defenders lineup for the MCU which included Hulk, Doctor Strange Namor and Asgardian heroine Brunhilde The Valkyrie which might setup Civil War for Avengers 3. If Strange is going to be the new Iron Man for Phase Three then he's going to need to lead his own team of superheroes. The Defenders could end up a solid successor to The Avengers if handled properly by the studio. LatinoReview has mentioned The Illuminati being involved with an Avengers sequel leading to a Planet Hulk film which could all fit together nicely if Namor is introduced into the MCU.

Marvel Sets Second 2016 Release Date For July 8th, Could This Mean We'll Be Seeing INHUMANS, BLACK PANTHER Or INCREDIBLE HULK 2 In 2016?

Marvel has announced a second unnamed film will be released in 2016. This one is set for July 8th and it's anyone's guess which of the many in development projects will be chosen for the slot. It was recently revealed that Doctor Strange could be Marvel's Iron Man for Phase Three. Given that comparison it's possible that Strange will end up being release in May 2016. I have to assume that either Black Panther or Inhumans will take the July release date. Since both projects have completed scripts and Kevin Feige has mentioned them as contending releases. Unless Marvel fast-tracks scripts for Captain America 3 or Thor 3. Currently, there hasn't been talk of scripts being in place for either of those possibilities. Another possibility is the rumored Incredible Hulk 2 (Planet Hulk?) film that LatinoReview has been talking about for months.

Vin Diesel Ruins Chances To Join The MCU By Revealing Meeting With Marvel

Vin Diesel has taken to Facebook to tease fans that he's been offered a meeting with Marvel.  I have no clue who they'd want Vin to play but it's likely his gravelly voice is what they're after. However, Vin's Riddick co-star Dave Bautista recently took a lead role in Guardians of The Galaxy so the studio might be a fan of the upcoming sci-fi action flick.

One thing I've learned about Marvel's casting process is that if you talk about it they will cut you loose very quickly. Many actors have been quick to talk about auditioning or meeting for parts in upcoming films only to find themselves out of the running. It's likely they forgot to read their testing contracts which would include clauses of not speaking to press or termination. They enjoy announcing these sorts of things with selected outlets and trades. Recently, Marvel decided to take a page from LucasFilm and announce major news from their own website. The first news to test those waters was RDJ signing on for Avengers 2 and Avengers 3.

RUMOR: Armie Hammer And Edgar Wright Spotted On CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Set, Will Hammer Have A Role In ANT-MAN Or The MCU?

ScreenRant was able to speak with actor Armie Hammer (Social Network, J. Edgar) during his press junket for Disney's The Lone Ranger. They brought up that Armie and Ant-Man director Edgar Wright had been spotted on the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Which has fuelled speculation that Hammer could be involved with the MCU and it's likely he could have a lead role in Ant-Man. Hammer does confirm that he was indeed on set but Edgar Wright took to Twitter to deny he was ever there.

Hammer had been originally cast as Batman in George Miller's purposed Justice League film which got the axe. Having Armie take on a superhero role isn't much of a stretch. Cobie Smulders who played Maria Hill in Avengers had been eyed for Wonder Woman in Joss Whedon's purposed film which never ended up getting off the ground. Not to mention his Lone Ranger co-stars have also been linked previously to Marvel projects. Johnny Depp had been wanted for the role of Doctor Strange a few years back and Ruth Wilson is apparently on the studio's radar for Ms. Marvel or another part. Also, Simon Pegg had stated he wouldn't play Ant-Man because the role was going to an American actor.

It's possible Joss Whedon and Edgar Wright have already talked about including characters from Ant-Man in Avengers 2, to setup Ant-Man as the first stage of Phase Three. Having either Hank Pym or Scott Lang have a small cameo in Captain America 2 wouldn't be hard to imagine. Since we've seen similar setups with other Marvel films. It's also possible that Hammer could be up for another part in the MCU which is considerably endless with Doctor Strange, Inhumans and other films on the horizon.

Nicolas Winding Refn And Mads Mikkelsen Making VALHALLA RISING Sequel Set In A Futuristic Tokyo?

ThePlaylist had a recent interview with Nicolas Winding Refn who teased about returning to the character One-Eye from Valhalla Rising played by Mads Mikkelsen. He gave the impression he's currently knocking around ideas which may include One-Eye thrown into a futuristic setting in Tokyo. This gives the impression either he's an immortal or a time-traveller.

Sarah Gadon Confirms Joining THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Franchise, Is She Playing Mary Jane Watson?

ETCanada has confirmation that Canadian actress Sarah Gadon has indeed joined Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man franchise. It was reported earlier today by MovieWeb that Gadon would be replacing Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson in the sequels starting with Amazing Spider-Man 3. As Woodley's commitments to Divergent sequels likely conflicted with the production of Amazing Spider-Man 3. The third installment would greatly focus on Peter and Mary Jane's relationship. While it's confirmed she's apart of the franchise her role has yet to be. It's very possible she's playing MJ but there are many ladies in Peter's life including good friends like Liz Allan, Betty Brant and Felicia Hardy (Black Cat). Felicity Jones is rumored for the latter but again her part hasn't been revealed either.

X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Release Date Moved Up To May 23rd 2014

20th Century Fox has moved the release date of Bryan Singer's X-Men Days of Future Past to a Marvel friendly May 23rd.

RUMOR: Dwayne Johnson In Talks To Join Arnold Schwarzenegger In TERMINATOR 5 As The Film's Villain?

According to TheExaminer action star Dwayne Johnson is looking to play a Terminator alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 5. It's an interesting bit of news since we don't even have a director at the moment. Besides, the recent talk that Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson, Only God Forgives, Drive) met with producers. Dwayne is having a solid roll of roles lately and could make an excellent villain. They also include possible plot details that might make it a little more unique than the last two films.

UPDATE: According to a source this news isn't 100% so take as a massive rumor.

T5 may be a prequel set in the days of Sarah Connor's parents, marking the first time terminators have been sent back in time to kill a character that existed before both John and Sarah Connor.
Incredibly, Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger's remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today's standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.

RUMOR: DOCTOR STRANGE Coming May 2016 And Villans Revealed?

It was recently announced Marvel/Disney secured two new release dates for untitled projects. The unknown films are slotted for May 6th 2016 and May 5th 2017. It looks we might be getting an official announcement at Comic-Con about these films. DailySuperHero is reporting on a rumor that Marvel could reveal their Doctor Strange film plans (along with casting?) at their pannel and which might fill that May 2016 slot. A while back it was reported by Twitch that the studio had been circulating a script from writers Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to potentinal directors. Kevin Feige all but confirmed to Collider that Strange would be among the new releases in Phase Three. Which would come after Edgar Wright's Ant-Man (the first film of Phase Three) in November 2015. A May 2016 release date sounds about right for the project. As Marvel is looking like they'll be shooting Ant-Man/Avengers 2 in 2014 after Guardians of The Galaxy wraps up leaving some room in 2015 for new a production.

ThePlaylist mentioned that there was talks the studio was looking at Joel Edgerton for the lead role of Dr. Stephen Strange. However, this was also around the same time that it was rumored the character would show up in Thor: The Dark World. Viggo Mortensen (History of Violence, Lord of The Rings, The Road, Eastern Promises) had been linked for the lead but Marvel came out to deny it. More recently Iron Man 2/Tropic Thunder writer and sometime actor Justin Theroux (Your Highness, American Psycho, Zoolander) had been linked for being in the mix as well. There had been previous rumblings that Javier Bardem (The Counselor, No Country For Old Men, Skyfall) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Hobbit, Sherlock, Atonement, Star Trek Into Darkness, War Horse) had been wanted for possible roles. Considering the pair are best known for playing solid villains it's possible they might end up being in the mix for Dormammu or Mordo.

LatinoReview, who is best known for outing villains for big blockbusters believes they know who the baddies will be. They state that the villains of Doctor Strange include Dormammu, Karl Mordo and The  Giant Mindless One. It's interesting mix of two staple villains from Strange's rouges gallery. I would have expected more of the horror/occult elements to come into play but it's only the first installment. Just remember this the same site that revealed villains General Zod (Man of Steel), Thanos (Avengers) and Khan (Star Trek Into Darkness.

A director hasn't been named but LatinoReview reported on talk that Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez and his writer Rodo Sayagues being linked for the project. Nothing besides rumors and meetings at this point but I'm sure something more solid will be announced at Comic-Con.

Robert Downey Jr. Officially Signs Deal To Appear In AVENGERS 2 And AVENGERS 3

Marvel confirms that Robert Downey Jr. will indeed play Tony Stark/Iron Man for two more films. As Robert has officially signed a two-picture deal to play Stark in both Avengers 2 and Avengers 3. This deal doesn't include any future Iron Man films. It's possible a bigger deal might need to be made for him to sign an Iron Man 4 contract or Marvel could give the franchise some time to breathe. Instead of rushing into a new trilogy giving the massive backlog of new characters (Black Panther, Iron Fist, Ms Marvel) a chance to get their films released. The Avengers and Iron Man 3 have collectively earned Marvel $2.7 billion, so it's an investment they had to make. Robert Downey Jr. and his take on Tony Stark is currently the glue of the MCU which will see him sticking around till the end of Phase Three. Details of the deal aren't being mentioned but it's possible that sort of information will be leaked eventually.
